Many of you have written your statements to us during the last two years as we have delivered them to Capitol Hill, along with our petition of 10,000 names of first responders who are seeking health studies and medical monitoring . SIGN THE PETITION HERE :
Still, we have had no real seat at the PFAS table.. there is no cohesive effort of government institutions to reach out to our 1.4 million member community and families!! We have no EPA, CDC/ATSDR, NIOSH community member meetings for firefighters as many of our fellow poisoned communities do.
We have not held a seat at the numerous PFAS Hearings on Capitol Hill. While we are appreciate of the work of our Senators and Representatives and the tremendous work they have done to recognize our PFAS exposure via PPE and AFFF, we are not recognized as a community by the institutions who oversee these efforts in water and industry impacted communities.
We must change that. We have been seeking a PFAS Task Force for all first responders, firefighters, veterans. A virtual gathering space where all may share, gather, discuss, and learn. We must have access to medical monitoring and health studies, safe handling, storage, and disposal protocols of PPE, and AFFF.
Our fire stations are laden with PFAS dust from years of PPE degradation. No one is sounding the alarm for you to mitigate this risk. Not even your fire institutions. This must not go on one more day. Your fire stations are not being tested for PFAS well and soil contamination. Even though every fire station has this product on hand and may have been storing for decades.
